I have been travelling a fair bit, so I checked in to The Westin Singapore for a staycation with the boyfriend to spend some quality time with him.

Opened last November at Asia Square, this hotel marked the return of the Westin brand to Singapore, after it left The Westin Stamford 12 years ago. It is also the first time that a hotel is housed within an office building here. Taking up levels 32 to 46 of Asia Square Tower Two at Marina View, the five-star hotel has 305 guest rooms and suites. The lobby is on the 32nd floor, thus making it the highest hotel lobby in Singapore.

I stayed on the 37th floor and ours was a premier seaview room, with glass-to-ceiling windows. We stayed  for two nights and one thing I loved most about the room is the bed – the renowned Heavenly® Bed in king-size, layered with soft white linens, a plush duvet, a down blanket and multiple plump pillows.

There was no need to put in a hotel key card for electricity, so you are not short of one card. A bedside control panel lets you adjust the room’s lighting with just one touch of a button. Even the Do Not Disturb function is electronic so you don’t have to hunt for the sign to hang outside your door.

The plush sofa was perfect for our takeaway dinners from the Lau Pa Sat opposite, where we lounged on and watched all kinds of sports and movies on the 42-inch HDTV, as well as hooked up our favourite tunes from the docking station.

As usual, I have work to complete even on staycation (yes the boyfriend disapproves) and the work desk was very functional, with its ergonomic desk chair, sufficient lighting from the desk lamp and power sockets within reach. (I ever encountered hotels with no power supply at the desk and it’s a pain.) High speed internet access comes at a fee though, starting from S$20 a day for up to three devices.

The marble bathroom—ours did not come with floor-to-ceiling windows— has a free standing bathtub and a rainforest shower, with a separate toilet. Fragrant White Tea By Westin™ bath amenities are provided, along with soft bathrobes that kept me warm. Daily newspapers will be provided every morning upon request.

The outdoor infinity pool is quite small and it was a busy weekend so it was too crowded for my liking. I headed to the gym instead, where there were top-notch cardio and weights machines. The gym is spacious so you can find your own spot to work out at, but I wish they had more equipment like a wider range of dumbbells, some barbells and a squat rack or at least a Smith machine. They offer fitness classes for guests too, including Loopz Fitness by Wong Li Lin.

After checking out we had a lovely champagne brunch at Seasonal Tastes (S$158++ per pax). Free flow of champagne which the servers attentively topped up as they walked around, seafood, meats, a variety of international foods and a dessert bar I kept going back to.

Best available rate for the weekend I stayed was S$430++ (+ S$20 for internet + S$45 for service charge + S$34.65 GST = S$529.65). On the pricey side yes, but you are assured luxury, comfort and great service.
