Hotel Jen Tanglin, formerly Traders Hotel Cuscaden Road, was the first Traders property globally to be rebranded under the Shangri-La International Hotel Management. It recently underwent a S$45 million revamp and is now sporting a modern and trendy design concept – one that resonates with the young ‘hipster’ crowd. Every one of the 565 rooms have a different look, featuring different locally curated Singapore-themed wallpaper designs such as bicycles, shophouses, orchids and goldfish.
The Club room I stayed in is of a shop house wallpaper. Club rooms have access to the Club Lounge, where you can have breakfast at and also daily cocktails, but I went to J65 for the full breakfast spread. J65 is modelled after a farmer’s market, offering cuisines of different types from Chinese to Western, Malay and Indian. You should also try their seafood buffet dinner if you are a big fan of fresh crabs and oysters.
Previously having stayed at Hotel Jen Orchardgateway twice, I was already familiar with the Hotel Jen branding, which is refreshing and vibrant. Directly connected to Tanglin Mall, Hotel Jen Tanglin is away from the madness of Orchard Road so you can have some peace and quiet when you are there, but there is a free shuttle service to Orchard or you can choose to take a nice stroll down. There are also weekday morning shuttle services to the Central Business District area. Hotel Jen Tanglin is also very near Botanical Gardens if you feel like having a jog.
